The "tau"-ists have this one...
Sitting at the Budweiser brewhouse in the indianapolis airport, debating the pros and cons of continuing to drink beer until my 9pm flight.....
the good news is that the tau plaque busting drug seems to be stopping/slowing the progression of Alzheimer's in an early study of 351 patients. the other good news is that it's called "Rember," which I think is hilarious on many levels (especially when you google it with "tau" and it asks if you mean "remember") and comes from a private, small biotech corp.
the not great news for the "baptists" is that bapineuzumab, the humanized monoclonal against beta-amyloid protein (BAP), is showing less than promising results, suffers a little from study design, and is giving some crazy cerebrovascular edema to a healthy proportion of patients. a bummer because there's something awesome about antibody drugs and it got so much early hype (granted it's from Wyeth and Elan) that i get a little nervous about the same thing happening with Rember--getting everyone's hope up and.... sigh..

Eastward for a week
Going to be back in the 413, 617, and some other area codes I don't know for a week or so. Planning to be in Boston sometime this weekend, think that there should be some definite Sunset beer drinking and trouble making....email. Same in W Mass. If you're dying for a quick trip up to NH/ME sometime in the mix, let me know..
